Translohr in TEDA

On December 6, 2006, the day for the 22nd anniversary of TEDA, the Translohr, as a result of a total investment of 190 million RMB yuan and France's advanced technology, was officially open to public traffic. Combining the advantages of the steel-wheeled LRT system with that of the bus system, the Translohr, developed by French manufacturer Lohr Industrie, is a rubber-tired LRT system widely used in West Europe. So far, the Translohr in TEDA is Asia's first guided tram system built for the purpose of commercial operation.

The Translohr is one of the world's latest models of public transit system in the urban area. As a 100% low floor electric system, it is both user and environment friendly. Since there is only 25 centimeters between the floor and the ground, it is very convenient for passengers to get on and off the tram and even very easy for the disabled to handle wheelchairs. The Translohr is also featured by passenger friendly seats. Apart from double seats and single seats, there are also special seats for the passengers carrying babies. The Translohr travels at a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour and an average speed of 20 kilometers per hour, 30% faster than buses. As a rubber tire electric transit system, it effectively reduces noise to the lowest level and significantly decreases road damage.
