Transportation
Highway: The highway construction mainly includes the following 5 projects. With a total estimated investment of 9.9 billion Yuan, the Tianjin section of the double-track Beijing-Tianjin Expressway stretches 144 km and follows the 6-8 lanes standard. The repairing project of Yuanjiahe West Passage Bridge of Jin-Bin Highway was completed more than one month ahead of the schedule and started operation on August 13, 2007. With a total length of 21 km, the western section of Wei (Weihai)-Wu (Wuhai) Highway in Tianjin follows the 6-lane design. The estimated investment of this project was 1.45 billion Yuan, and was completed and opened to traffic in January, 2006. The Jin-Ji Highway was extended with an aim to connect its two ends with Jin-Ji Highway and Beijing Jing-Ping (Pinggu) Highway, and was extended to Pinggu district of Beijing through the mountains. The extended highway covers a length of 15.5 km with a total investment of 1.5 billion Yuan. The project was started in 2006 and was open to traffic in June, 2008. The second line (Tianjin section) of Jing-Jin-Tang Expressway stretches from the Fifth Ring Road around Xizhi River in Chaoyang District, Beijing to Beitang Town in Tanggu, Tianjin. It covers a total length of 177.8 km and 9.9 billion Yuan will be invested. The second line (Tianjin section) of Jing-Jin-Tang Expressway, one of the ten major projects of accelerated construction in Binhai New Area, has already been completed and opened to traffic in July, 2008.
Haibin Road Project aims to connect Tianjin Port, Huanghua Port, Jingtang Port and Qinhuangdao Port, making Haibin Road a "new line" to fuel the rapid development of Binhai New Area, to facilitate the formation of the sea-land transport network in Bohai Bay Area and to boost the sound economic development of Bohai Rim. The second line of Jing-Jin Expressway, also the second traffic artery connecting Beijing and Tianjin, was open to traffic on July 16, 2008. The highway is also the plan of the Ministry of Transport as the northern passage of three expressways in southern, northern and central regions of Beijing and Tianjin. It will also help further promote economic and trade exchanges between Beijing and Tianjin. Besides, a number of projects under construction will bring a closer link Binhai New Area with various urban areas in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Among which, the Tang-Cheng Expressway Project (I phase) will connect Binhai New Area and Tianjin Port to Baodi and Jixian, extending to Chengde of Hebei Province, and the eastern and northern of northeastern part of Inner Mongolia; Jin-Ning Expressway will help connect the urban area with Ninghe and Hangu, and is the most convenient access to enter Tianjin and the national highway network; Jin-Qin passenger special line will pass through Hedong District, Dongli District, Tanggu District, Hangu District, and Ninghe County in Tianjin, and then reaches Tangshan in Hebei Province. Based on the above established and under-construction projects, an integrated regional transport system is expected to take shape in Binhai New Area in about three years.
Five years later, the highway infrastructure of the whole city will form "a fast-transport circle of one hour rounding the city" in cities, "a three-hour urban-economic circle" for the integrated development of the Jing-Jin-Ji urban circle, and "a eight-hour hinterland services circle" to facilitate the economic development in the Bohai Rim.
