Transportation
Air: Two international airports are located in the region only one and a half hours' drive from TEDA, namely, Beijing Capital International Airport (about 145 km from TEDA) and Tianjin Binhai International Airport (about 38 km from TEDA). At present, the two major international airports have established a new assets-based airport group, which will be the first domestic large-scale cross-regional airport group featuring airport design, construction, investment and management, promoting the passenger and cargo transport of the two airports. This will also facilitate the establishment of a three-dimensional integrated transportation network including railway, highway, shipping, and air transport. According to "11th Five-Year Plan" of Tianjin, Tianjin Binhai International Airport will be established as a base for air cargo and a major passenger airport line in northern China, and form an international aviation hub in the northeast Asian region gathering with Beijing Capital International Airport.
Tianjin Binhai International Airport China's largest air cargo center is 38 km or 40 minutes' drive from TEDA. The airport acts as the agency for domestic and international business on passenger & cargo charter flight as well as the one-stop service while providing ground agency business for various airways. As the fixed alternate airport and the diversion airport for the airports in Beijing, Tianjin Binhai International Airport represents one of major air cargo centers in China and the hub airport for the new established Okay Airways. In addition to the major cities in China, the airport has also added charter flights to Blagoveshchensk, and the whole Far East Region of Russia can also be covered.

As one of the main airports for the Beijing Olympic Games, the new terminal of Tianjin Binhai International Airport was officially launched on April 28, 2008. With a total investment of nearly 3 billion, the first phase of the expansion project of Tianjin Binhai International Airport occupies a total floor space of 116,000 m2. Following relevant standards of airfield (4E), the expansion airfield will meet the basic requirements of B747-400 and the landing and take-off of A380 aircraft. The Binhai International Airport is expected to handle over 10 million passengers and 500,000 tons of cargoes by 2010.Binhai International Airport also enjoys a sharp increase in the amount of international cargo.
The tariff amount takes the third position in China, demonstrating the huge potential and strength of the establishment of an international air logistics center in northern China.Currently, Tianjin airport operates a total of 57 air routes and connects 51 cities. The airline is estimated to operate over 100 domestic and international routes by 2010. Domestic route network covers all capital cities, sub-provincial cities and major tourist cities. Airline will radiate in all directions from Tianjin as a hub, which will facilitate the connection of all small and medium airports within an 800-kilometer radius. For international flights, express flights will be operated to Japan and South Korea. Tourist routes to countries like Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and India will be opened in two years. And great efforts are made to open the passenger routes to the United States and Europe in the near future.
Capital Airport of Beijing
Capital Airport of Beijing, the largest Chinese passenger transport airport, is 180 km from TEDA. A ride between these two places may take 2 hours.
Beijing Capital Airport has a customs clearance and checking center at Tianjin Development Area. Exports may go through the customs declaration and checking formalities at Tianjin Development Area, and be delivered to other arts of the world via Tianjin Airport and Beijing Airport. TEDA Customs has a customs transfer agreement with Beijing Airport Customs and Tianjin Airport Customs for imports. Just a customs transfer process is enough to transport the imports to Tianjin Development Area from the above-mentioned airports before customs declaration. Imported materials may be delivered to Tianjin Development Area before customs declaration, while exports be loaded up to airplanes after being packed and customs declaration at TEDA.
Vision Planning Tianjin Binhai International Airport is reconstructed and expanded in an effort to integrate the air resources of Beijing and Tianjin and meet the development needs on the rapidly growth of air transport business. Tianjin Binhai International Airport will be expanded to 120,000 m2, among which, a new terminal and relevant supporting projects will cover 100,000 m2, and the runway will be extended to 3,600 meters by 2010. Tianjin subway, Beijing-Tianjin inter-city passenger special line, and the second and third lines of Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Expressway will also be gradually connected with the Tianjin airport. Tianjin airport will be expected to receive 10 million passengers and 500,000 tons of cargo in 2010.
