Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA) is becoming the biggest "Automobile Factory Site" in China attributing to the following advantages:
1) Tianjin Toyota Co., which was established in 2000, a Joint Venture between Tianjin Auto Group and Toyota with a total investment amount to US$ 1 billion, will produce high-class Toyota car with capacity of more than 3.0L at an annual capacity of 300,000 unites;
2) TEDA is growing industrial chain in auto-related spare parts. There are already 20 existing spare parts companies in TEDA, including Denso, Tokairika, Aisin, Fujitsu Ten, Stanley, Yazaki, and President;
3) Shanghai Volkswagen has already established a distribution center supporting the North China area;
4)TEDA has launched a plan to establish an industrial supply platform for both Toyota in Tianjin and Hyundai in Beijing;
5) Automotive industry is one of the existing pillar industries in Tianjin. Till the end of 2001, Tianjin has about 200 automobile-related companies including 196 spare parts companies and 4 assembly companies;
6) Tianjin Port, only 3 kilometers close to TEDA, is the biggest auto importing and exporting seaport in China.
