Kumho Tires of South Korea Aiming at TEDA for its Overseas Headquarters
Kumho Asiana Group of South Korea announced a few days ago that it would establish with an investment of 20 million dollars an R&D center with 300 senior R&D professionals in TEDA of China. Therefore, Kumho Tire Tianjin Co., Inc. will become headquarters of Kumho¡¯s overseas manufacturing base integrating tire research, development, production, and sales.
 
With phase I investment of 185 million dollars, Kumho Tire Tianjin Co., Inc. is to focus upon production of radial tires and is expected to have an annual output of 5.25 million tires. There will be a capital increase of 130 million dollars for phase II. The ultimate output will be 10.4 million radial tires per year. This project covers a total area of about 310£¬000 square meters, with 140,000 square meters of floorage for phase I . Production will start in July, 2006.
 
Kumho Tire Tianjin Co., Inc. will provide products mainly for whole car manufacturers in the north of China and agents in North China and Northeast China. It will adopt the world¡¯s leading production techniques, equipment, and pollution control measures to ensure that discharge of all its pollutants are up to the environment protection standards of China and TianjinMunicipality on a stable basis in order to be a ¡°green enterprise¡± in the tire industry.

The Largest Semiconductor Base of Rohm Moors to TEDA
The world-noted manufacturer of semiconductor elements and parts, Rohm Co., Ltd., plans to expand its production base and improve its sales service network so as to make its development, production, sales and quality assurance available in China. And in the latter half of this year it is going to establish its largest production base of semiconductors and electronic products in TEDA.
 
It is learned that Rohm Co., Ltd. plans to construct a production base of 110,000 square meters in TEDA, which will be Rohm¡¯s largest production base of semiconductors and electronic products worldwide. Rohm set up Rohm Electronics Components (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. in 1993 and Rohm Electronics Wako (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. in 2002. This year the two companies were merged into Rohm Semiconductor (China) Co., Ltd. in TEDA.
 
Rohm, a world-known electronic group established in 1954, has 52 years of history. It has gradually developed itself into a large corporation which boasts 45 R&D, production and sales bases worldwide and provides products such as large scale integrated circuits, optical devices, modules, discrete semiconductors, passive components, etc.

Cabot's New Move to Build its TEDA Base
Cabot (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Coking & Chemical Corporation recently announced the establishment of Cabot Performance Products (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. Following the construction of the largest production base of carbon black used in tires in China last year, the new company is another large project of Cabot Corporation of the U.S. in TEDA. After its completion, the production line will be the largest special carbon black production line of Cabot Corporation in the Asia-Pacific region.
 
It is introduced thatwith a planned investment of nearly 30 million dollars in its first phasethe company will adopt the world¡¯s most advanced technique of Cabot Corporation for the production of special carbon black. It will build the first production line for this product in the Chemical Industrial Park of TEDA with a production capacity of about 20,000 tons of various special carbon black of high quality. The production line is scheduled to commence its operation in the latter half of 2006. The company will exercise strict and efficient environmental control over production, recycle energy sources in such by-products as tail exhaust£¬ and adopt the world¡¯s most advanced desulphurization technique to treat waste gas in production.

Vestas Establishes a Blade Factory in TEDA
Recently Vestas signed a contract with TEDA for the transfer of the land use rights of a 190,000-square-meter area.
 
The new factory which will hire 240 employees will commence construction as soon as possible. Expected to deliver its first 39-metre blades for V80-2.0 MW wind turbines in the first half of 2006, the factory will have its annual output reach nearly 600 turbine blades. The total investment of the factory is 25 million euros (30 million dollars) and is included in the 2004 annual report of Vestas.
 
Vestas is the world leader in wind technology and a driving force in the development of the wind power industry. Its core business comprises the development, manufacture, sale, and after-sales service of wind power systems.
 
Vestas has installed over 26,000 wind turbines in over 50 countries worldwide.
 
With 9,600 employees worldwide, the group has production facilities in Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Scotland, England, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Australia.

Gorbel (Tianjin) Crane Co., Ltd. of U.S. Settles in TEDA

 
Recently a signing ceremony for the land-transfer contract between Gorbel (Tianjin) Crane Co., Ltd. and TEDA was held in Renaissance Tianjin TEDA Hotel. It is learned that Gorbel Inc. of the U.S.was established in 1977 and headquartered in Fishers, New York, with facilities in New Yorkand Alabama. After 27 years of growth, Gorbel becomes an innovator and leader in the enclosed track work station crane industry, and provides a wide variety of overhead material handling solutions. With wide sales network, Gorbel boasts the largest market share in the domestic market of the U.S. and offers products widely applied to mechanical and electronics sectors of the manufacturing industry, especially in those with special demands for cranes.

The new company in TEDA is the first investment project of Gorbel in China. Located in 13th Avenue of TEDA and covering an area of 16,500 square meters, the company has a total investment of 6.2 million dollars and registered capital of 3.1 million dollars.

China's Largest Pyramid Being Constructed in TEDA
Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Co., Ltd. and the Sweden-based Hifab Agora, signed an cooperation agreement a few days ago on the project of TEDA CitizenPlaza in terms of the operational concept, policy support, and international management of the European Theme Store. That means this huge pyramid will take in European elements.
 
Lying on the east side of Nanhai Road, trunk road of the New Coastal District, and right to the south of TEDAInvestmentServiceCenter, TEDA CitizenPlaza is China¡¯s largest pyramidal single building.  With a unique architectural style, it is one of the demonstrating architectures in the New Coastal District and the Circum-Bohai Region. After it is completed, TEDA Citizen Plaza will have a super large business space of 14 stories and an international shopping-mall of 200,000 square meters, an integration of department stores, quality stores, catering, recreation, leisure, and culture facilities, a world-famous club, a five-star movie theater, a skating rink, an exotic bar street, and a Holiday Inn hotel, etc. It has brought a whole new life style to the New Coastal District and the Circum-Bohai Region.
 
Hifab Agora, who signed with Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Co., Ltd., is the second large multinational company coming to TEDA CitizenPlaza, next to Holiday Inn of InterContinental Hotels Group. It is also the first to sign with Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Co., Ltd. for the project of TEDA Citizen Plaza.

Tianjin Idemitsu Lube Company Limited Starting Business in TEDA

 

The opening ceremony of Tianjin Idemitsu Lube Company Limited was held in TEDA a few days ago. Idemitsu is one of the world¡¯s Top 500 enterprises, and is the most superior one in the lube industry. The current rapid development of Tianjin New Coastal District and TEDA provides Idemitsu with a very favorable development opportunity. As is known, Tianjin Idemitsu Lube Company Limited was established in July, 2003 with an investment of 5 million dollars. It focuses upon the production and marketing of more than 200 varieties of products such as engine oil, ATF, industrial lubricants, and metal working oil.

Global Leader of Micronized Fluoropolymer Is Coming

 
Recently, Shamrock Technologies (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. started operation in TEDA. It is the only China-located wholly-owned subsidiary of Shamrock Technologies, the global leader of micronized fluoropolymer and powdered waxes.
 
As the developer of micronized PTFE (polytetrefluoroethylene), Shamrock Technologies has always been an active player in the industrial coating and printing ink market. Today it is the global leader of regrinding technology and the biggest manufacturer of micronized fluoropolymer and powered waxes.
 
Shamrock produces all kinds of addictives with its own patented techniques. Its products are widely applied in letterpress printing ink, sheet-fed printing ink, offset printing ink, gravure printing ink, UV/EB curing ink, digital printing ink and special printing ink. Test Line of TEDA Tramway to Start Construction August
Construction of the eye-catching TEDA Modern Tramway Project will start in August this year and the Phase One test line is expected to debut by the end of 2006.
 
It is reported that the 30-kilometer project will be constructed in two phases. Phase One, an 8.8-kilometer test line, starts by the Dongting Road Station of the Jinbin Light Track in the south and ends in the University Town North Station in the north. In Phase Two, the test line will be extended in both directions so that the project may ultimately reach Beitang northward and Tanggu District southward. With a total investment of 190 million yuan(vehicle cost excluded), the test line is planned to include 14 ground stations with island platforms. The line adopted eight 100% low-floor (floor-ground height less than 30 centimeters) Translohr trams, which makes it much easier for passengers to get on and off. Human-oriented design even guarantees free movement to wheelchairs and rubber tires effectively minimize both road wear and running noise.

Samsung's Largest Mobile Telephone Manufacturing Base Coming to the Microelectronic Industrial Park of TEDA
The new factory building of Tianjin Samsung Telecom Technology Co., Ltd. was completed in the Microelectronic Industrial Park of TEDA a few days ago. It is reported that the new factory building covers an area of 65,000 square meters and the floorage of phase I is 35,000 square meters. The monthly production capacity of the production line has doubled after the completion of the new factory and leapt into the front ranks of the industry of China. Tianjin Samsung Telecom Technology Co., Ltd. will become Samsung¡¯s largest mobile telephone manufacturing base with its products covering all types of Samsung¡¯s high-end mobile telephones. In addition to meeting the domestic market demand, a majority of its products go to overseas market.
 
At present Samsung is taking the lead in many respects of the mobile communication industry. The sales volume of mobile telephones produced by Samsung Telecom is on a steady increase for years. With a sales revenue over 7 billion yuan, Samsung Telecom became a global manufacturing base for Samsung mobile telephone in 2003. The mobile telephone output for 2004 was 14 million.
 
According to information from the quarters concerned, Tianjin¡¯s annual output of mobile telephone has now come up to 49.5 million. With a greater development of the mobile communication industry, Tianjin is expected to be a gathering place with the greatest competitiveness in the world for supporting manufacturers in the years to come. It is estimated that Tianjin¡¯s mobile telephone output will go up to more than 80 million and the output value of the electronic information industry will be more than 300 billion yuan by 2010. Tianjin will further establish its position as China¡¯s ¡°Mobile Telephone Capital¡±.
