Co-sponsored by Tianjin Commission of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade, Tianjin Municipal Commission and TEDA Administrative Commission, the ¡°2003 International Fair (Tianjin, China) on Accessories for Manufacturing Industry (Mobile Communication)¡± was held on July 18 to 19, 2003 in TEDA.

The object of the Fair was to boost the development of mobile communication Industry of China by the means of constructing a communication platform between final products manufactures & components suppliers. Its principal was ¡°to build a suppliers¡¯ platform, to lower the logistic costs, and to facilitate the cooperation among enterprises¡±.

The grand exhibition hall of the Fair was about 3,000 sqm, and divided into A & B parts with 166 booths. Additionally, 200 sqm of meeting area was spared for the participants. 151 companies joined the Fair, including 30 domestic companies in Tianjin, 111 from other regions of China, and 10 overseas companies. These companies, either themselves or their parental companies, were from 15 countries and regions, such as Japan, Singapore, Netherlands, USA, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany, UK, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Australia and Swiss.

In this Fair, direct ¡°Purchasers¡± were 28 companies from 5 provinces/cities as Beijing, Jiangshu, Fujian, Shandong and Tianjin. Totally there were 19 final products manufactures, 9 OEM, ODM and EMS companies, among which, 13 Purchasers set up 24 booths to out source over 200 products. 23 designated mobile phone companies participated the global purchasing (including 4 adopted the e-purchasing system), which occupied 62% of the overall number of mobile phone companies in China. They were Motorola, Sanyo, Samsung, Erricssion, Panasonic, LG, Lenovo, Capital and so on, who sent 236 technical & purchasing staff to present in the Fair. Besides, 2 large state-owned communication groups and 3 mobile phone logistic companies also join in. 138 domestic components suppliers (from 20 provinces and provincial cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Liaoning, Guangdong, Henan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, and Tianjin) rented 142 booths. Additionally, 10 overseas suppliers from Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hongkong took part in. Besides, 2 comprehensive service providers ---- Tianjin Datian Group and Tianjin Kaitai Incubator presented. During the 2-day Fair, 8000 people enlisted, 800 suppliers set up over 1,200 direct discussions with 28 purchasers and made more than 400 preliminary cooperation intents. Taiwan Taizhan Co., Korean Jinrong Acoustics Co. and Natics from the Stats showed their investment interests upon TEDA.

The Fair held an open Panel participated both by the purchasers and suppliers. Most people agreed on the Panel the necessity of holding the Fair annually ---- it would be a stage sponsored by the government while performed by the enterprise, a platform of face-to-face discussion for the purchasers and suppliers. General view showed that such kind of Fair was not only good to the expansion of out sourcing channels of the purchasers, the simplicity of out sourcing procedures and the lowering of costs, but also good to the products adjustment and optimization of domestic companies, helping them upgrade products quality and technology and increase export volume.
