  Personal Achievements of Tiancheng Mai, Managing Director of German SEW
A citizen of Malaysia, Tiancheng Mai, the Managing Director of SEW Tianjin, has his ancestral home in Guangdong, China. Having deep feelings for China, he is an honest person, with a strong sense of law. Since 1994 he has lived and worked in Tianjin. During these nine years, he was awarded "Excellent Manager" by TEDA, and "Foreign Expert" and "Honorary Citizen of Haihe" by the Tianjin Municipal Government. For more than once he was issued the "Permanent Residence Certificate" (with an effective period of two years) by the municipal Public Security Bureau.

In the early 1990s, the SEW headquarters were considering setting up an Asian-Pacific manufacturing center either in India or in China. In 1993 Mr. Tiancheng Mai, then the General Manager for SEW's Asian and Pacific region, was sent by the headquarters to look for the optimal site. After visiting India and several places in China including Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Jiangsu, he declined India, proposing to the headquarters Tianjin as the appropriate site. Up to now the company has become a reputable enterprise in China's speed reducer industry, with 20 offices in other cities and provinces. This year has seen more investment by the company and the establishment of two new companies-SEW Industrial Equipment Co. Ltd. and SEW Transmission Equipment Co. (Suzhou), both having Mr. Tiancheng Mai as the G.eneral Manager. The success of Tianjin firm led by Mr. Mai has attracted a great number of European and American companies for visit. Meanwhile, Mr. Mai also tries to make Tianjin known by more people through his extensive networking. Because of his personal recommendation, Nordberg, a Finnish company, has chosen to locate in TEDA; and Budruce a German company, has decided to set up a factory at the Microelectronics Industrial Park in Xiqing District in Tianjin. A descendant of Chinese, Mr. Tiancheng Mai has made great contribution to the economic growth of China, especially that of Tianjin, with his deep love for his native land.
