Briefing on the Development of Tianjin Electronic & IT Industry
1. Continuous growing of industrial index
This year, Tianjin sees the gross industrial output up to 142.35 billion RMB, 38.2% of growth ratio comparing with that of the last year. The export volume reaches 81.3billion RMB, 51.8% of growth ratio; sales revenue 138.59 billion RMB, 42.9% of growth ratio; profit volume 14.71 billion RMB, 335.4% of growth ratio, and the profit margin is as high as 10.6%; tax revenue 1.54 billion RMB, 37.2% of growth ratio. The sales revenue, which amounts up to 149.3 billion RMB, has doubled comparing with year 2000. In general, the electronic & IT industry of Tianjin contributes 5.66% of the nation¡¯s total 2.65 trillion RMB, while the tax volume contributes 10.83% of the nation¡¯s total 2.65 trillion RMB, which makes Tianjin come out top among all the cities of China when considering the investment return ratio.
2. Glorious leading enterprises and backbone products
The mobile phone output reaches 100 million sets in year 2006 with a growth of 45%, occupying 24% of the national gross output; the output of electronic components is 96.83 billion units, 21.1% of growth ratio, contributing 6% of the national gross output. In fact, Tianjin is the largest manufacturing base of mobile phones, electronic devices and components, and displayers.
3. Reinforced supply chain
Motorola alone has over 80 local suppliers in Tianjin and 176 suppliers nation-wide. Totally, there are over 300 suppliers with more than 400 products for Motorola, Samsung and the like.

During the first season of year 2005, TEDA sees its profit margin of electronic & IT industry reaching a new record nationally. The sales revenue of this season has reached 30.64 billion RMB with 3.443 billion of profit, which contributes 18% of the national profit scale. The profit margin is as high as 11%. TEDA hands in 1.27 billion RMB of tax to the central government, contributing 19.4% of the total figure of the country, and the profit margin here reaches an even higher level of 15.4%. In general, the profit margin and tax ratio of Electronic & IT industry of TEDA is about 3.7 times of the national general level.

The preparatory formation of a manufacture base for High-end IT products
Year 2001 sees the industrial output of TEDA IT industry climbing up to 59.433 billion RMB, which occupies 68.7% of the general industrial output (86.511billion RMB) in this area, 90.86% of the total industrial output in Tianjin (65.413billion RMB), and 7.22% of the total IT industry of China (823.7billion RMB, according to the sales statistics). In TEDA, the profit derived from IT industry contributes 14% to the total profit volume of China, and its profit ratio ranks No.1 in this country, which is more than double of the national average level. Year 2004 is expected to enjoy an even better development of the IT industry in TEDA.
Currently, IT industry is becoming the first pillar industry of Tianjin. About 40 kinds of IT products rank the top5 (market share) in the national market, among which 17 kinds rank No.1. Tianjin has become one of the 3 manufacturing bases of electronic components and mobile phones of China. As Mr. Lu Ping, the Director of the Tianjin Government Informatization Office once introduced, 6 backbone products manufacturing groups cored on the telecommunication equipment have been formed in Tianjin. Right now, there are nearly 1,000 IT products enterprises in Tianjin, including 584 foreign founded companies. Among the Fortune Top 500 companies, 28 have invested 48 IT products projects in Tianjin. Besides, there are nearly 20,000 people involving in the software development industry, among which 90% are technological staff.
On one hand, Tianjin is geographically located in the Bohai Ring Economic Area, and the latter is the largest consuming market of IT products in China. On the other hand, Tianjin enjoys the advantage of having the most complete mobile phone & components supply chain and related infrastructure facilities in China, so it is granted as the most competitive focus of wireless communication industry. Motorola, Samsung, Sanyo and other multinationals have been relocated in TEDA for a long time, and formed a good-sized manufacturing scale.
